Tropical Storm Lee sent us a Labor Day weekend of high winds and rains. Lee left piles of sand in the parking lot and on the pavilion of Pensacola Beach, but it also brought in fun surf. Check out some photos.

The Oyster Drill Picking Party and Beach Clean up on Deadman’s Island in Gulf Breeze was a success. Everyone had a great time helping with this project. Deadman’s Island is a designated city park that is great for kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming and snorkeling. I’m glad we had the opportunity to help with The City of Gulf Breeze Deadman’s Island Restoration Project and meet project organizer, Heather Reed, and her boat volunteers. We recently packed the cooler and headed out to Fort Pickens to grill some burgers and to enjoy the outdoors. We went to Battery Worth which is located on Pensacola Bay. The park has beach access, picnic tables with BBQ grills, a pavilion, and bathroom facilities.

Battery Worth is a nice getaway from the crowds on Pensacola Beach. This is also a great place to view the natural settings of the beach and it’s wildlife. The kids will have fun following around the ghost crabs and watching the beach mice as well as paddling around in the water for an aerial view of sea life. The family can also enjoy the nice view from the lookout and learn a bit about the history of the fort. On certain Friday evenings, the Escambia Amateur Astronomers Association sets up telescopes at Battery Worth for stargazing.

Delta Woods & Waters Expo Photos

The Delta Woods and Waters Expo was a nice event. Guests to the event enjoyed boat tours of the delta, kayaking, touch tanks, basket weaving with Liz Philbrick, pottery, music and many other activities in and around their beautiful facilities. Fontaine Radcliff Howard was there with a slideshow of her Alabama wildlife photography and her book, Spirit of the South. I hope you were able to capture some of the fun. Enjoy.

What a great time we had at the Seagrass Festival at Shoreline Park! Kids could learn to fish, get their hands wet in the touch tanks, make seagrass crafts, and view wildlife from the many vendors.

Surf’s up in Northwest Florida. On June 28th, Tropical Storm Alex, the first named storm of the Atlantic tropical season, stirred up the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Eventhough the tropical storm made land fall between the Texas/Mexico border, it’s effects were far reaching. You can tell by these photos that the storm generated waves that the surfers in the Northwest Florida enjoy seeing. The Piers of Okaloosa Island and Navarre Beach are very popular surfing spots, especially with this much wave action.

These action filled surfing photos were taken by Sandy O’Neal. Sandy lives in the Florida Panhandle (Milton to be precise) with her husband and 3 dogs (Sidney, Radar & Beau). Her passion is portrait photography and wedding photography. She also enjoy sports photography.
