In celebration of Florida’s Arbor Day, Escambia County, University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Science (UF/IFAS) Extension and the Florida Forestry Service (FFS) will be giving away 4,000 seedling trees. Species include Crabapple, Mayhaw, Cherrybark Oak, River Birch, Wax Myrtle and Bald Cypress. Participants will receive two native tree seedlings of their choice. There will be two different events and locations.
Where: Walnut Hill Community Center, 7850 Hwy 97
When: Monday, January 14
Time: 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Where: Jones Swamp Preserve Trail, entrance at 198 Patton Drive and Brigadier
When: Friday, January 18
Time: 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
If you’re not sure what type of seedlings to choose, ask an Extension Agent or Master Gardener. They will be available at both locations to advise participants on tree types and tree placement in the landscape.
